Math Olympiad
Math Olympiad is held Tuesday afternoons from November through the beginning of March. Students in 4th and 5th grade are given the opportunity to take a qualification test before competition begins.  The top 15 students in 4th grade and the 15 students in 5th grade are selected to represent Vanderlyn. There were practice sessions and competition days.  The sessions alternated.  Students were presented with high level, logic based, problem solving style math problems.  Tests answers and points are submitted and an overall winner is named based on total points earned.

Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl

Track Club
Sponsors: Coach Dwyer, Coach Kurtz & Coach Norman

Track club meets on Mondays after school.

Interested fourth and fifth grade students attend an informational meeting in September.  Returning track members are added to the roster first and then the remaining spots are filled based on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Students learn correct running posture, breathing techniques, running etiquette and more during track practice.  The students and coaches also run two 5ks each semester as a team.  The season culminates with the VanderDash in the spring.

Please visit Coach Dwyer's website for more information.
